The Tangible Table was developed as an interactive, height-adjustable installation that combined digital technology with a clean, fully laminated exterior. A touchscreen formed the centre of the experience, with ten custom 3D-printed pucks allowing users to physically interact with and control the on-screen content.
The main technical challenge was integrating standing-desk mechanisms, a PC, lighting and supporting hardware without compromising the movement or appearance of the table. I developed an internal skeleton that clearly separated the components that needed to rise with the tabletop from those that could remain fixed at floor level. This also made the final assembly and access to the technology as straightforward as possible.
Integrated LED lighting included subtle 10 mm illuminated details within the table and downlighting onto the floor, giving the finished piece a refined visual presence. The project required close technical coordination across the physical structure, electronics and interactive system to ensure everything operated together reliably.
